Lockdown proved you can’t put kindness in a corner

In May we asked fundraisers to send us a short video, showing how they were supporting charities during lockdown. Two winning entries would win a $250 prize each, in the form of a donation to the charity of their choice.

The response to our #GivingFromHome contest was amazing – dozens of fundraisers sent in their videos. We saw them running marathons in their gardens, painting masterpieces or sewing funky masks for donors. We even saw puppies fundraising! To say it was inspiring would be an understatement. There’s something really wonderful and touching about fundraisers from around the world using their diverse talents to help charities they care about, especially in this time of need.

The first winner was decided by tallying the popular vote on Woobox on 28 May, while the second one for the most creative video was chosen by the GivenGain judging panel.

As it happened, the video with the most votes was uploaded by Alexia Polis.

Alexia and her friends raised funds from home for Asociación Pie Alado - La Flama. Each took part in a sporting activity for 30 minutes and donated 30 soles (USD 8.75) to buy emergency food and hygiene kits for Peruvian girls.

After receiving so many amazing videos, choosing the most creative one was harder than we thought! In the end, after a lot of arguing, our judges picked the one sent in by Kate Leonard.

Kate showed the world how one woman and her puppy can put the fun into fundraising from home. The money she raised will go to South African charity Lesedi la Batho, whose mission is to empower and equip unemployed youth and vulnerable women with the skills they need to become motivated and independent.

Thanks to everyone who submitted their videos – and to everyone who raised funds from home during lockdown! It was great to see how kindness is continuing, no matter what.
